Lucas Hewitt is a Waterloo native and enterprise application developer running for Iowa House District 61 as a no-party candidate. Raised by a retired police officer father and a retired probation officer mother, he grew up with a deep sense of ethics and empathy. He attended Kittrell, Hoover, and West High schools before studying linguistics at the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa.
Lucas has been married for 12 years and is the father of three children. He and his family foster animals through the Cedar Bend Humane Society and share their home with two dogs and three cats. The lifelong friendships he has built across many different backgrounds shaped his belief in listening across differences and finding common ground.
As a candidate, Lucas is committed to nonpartisan, transparent, and responsive representation for the people of Waterloo. He believes his role is to evaluate every proposal on its merits for the district, to explain the reasoning behind his votes openly, and to personally listen and respond to the people he represents.
Lucas will evaluate every proposal based on what is best for Waterloo, regardless of which side it comes from, and reject pressure to vote along party lines.
Lucas commits to publicly posting the reasoning behind every vote he casts, so the people of District 61 can hold him accountable.
Lucas will personally read and respond to constituent messages, making sure the concerns of the people he represents never fall through the cracks.
